OFF-CAMPUS EVENTS

STEP SUNBURST YOUTH CAMP

I represented Singapore and Ngee Ann Polytechnic in a camp Organised by Temasek Foundation under their Singapore Technologies Endowment Programme (STEP) from 1 - 7 December 2019.

This camp involved youths from ASEAN, China, India and other Asian countries for a week of bonding, networking and learning about different cultures

What I Did:​

  • Rehearsed  and curated performances

  • Facilitated active discussions between the delegates

  • Planned itineraries for the foreign delegates

  • Acted as a "tour guide" during the camp

  • Took part in a percussion ensemble performance

What I Learnt:

  • How to overcome language barriers

  • Work ethics of other countries

  • Culture and practices of other countries

  • Importance of inter-country networking

  • Effective teamwork despite culture/language differences

Verve

VERVE 2019

Verve is a community art festival organised by the Year 2 students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic's Diploma in Arts Business Management. The entire planning and execution process is conducted by the students.

I was a finance member for the 9th edition of Verve.

What I Did:

  • Creation of sponsorship letters and grant application

  • Contacted companies for sponsorships

  • Planned a fundraising event for the festival along the finance team

    • Total revenue: $1,944.75

    • Profit: $989 

  • Sourced for prizes and items that will attract buyers

  • Was in-charge of ticketing booth during the actual festival

  • Handled miscellaneous administrative work

What I Learnt:

  • How to write effective sponsorship letters

  • How to fill in PRF forms

  • Communication Skills

  • Event Planning & Management

POLYTECHNIC FORUM 2019

represented Ngee Ann Polytechnic in this event where students from the 5 local polytechnics come together to gain a deeper understanding of national issues through discussions and engagement with government and industry leaders.

This edition of the event also commemorated Singapore's Bicentennial Commemoration and involved students looking back 700 years at Singapore's history. 

What I Did:​

  • Allocated to the theme of "Entrepreneurship" and actively participated in discussions related to this topic

  • Brainstorm ideas on how to further develop Singapore into a country with bright entrepreneurs

  • Went into the community to interview Singaporeans on how they feel our nation has progressed and how it should continue to progress

What I Learnt:

  • Importance of being well-read with news

  • How to conduct productive discussion sessions

  • Learnt more about Singapore's history

  • Learnt how to develop myself into an entrepreneur through seminars from successful entrepreneurs and field trips to different companies
